For the past 21 years, it would be impossible to find someone
who has booked and helped produce more major music related TV programming and events than Bruce Gillmer.

If the claim seems steep, consider that he started at MTV in ’87 in the legendary talent relations department at the height of the network’s popularity with music. After seven yearsof programming videos and working with shows like “Yo! MTV Raps,” “Headbanger’s Ball” and the annual “Video Music Awards” and “Spring Break”, Gillmer made the move with another MTV star to the world of the syndicated nightly talk show. He booked and produced the musical performance segments for Paramount’s “John Stewart Show.”

When the celebrated, but short-lived program was retired, Bruce was pulled back to the MTV Nets fold, this time as an executive at the newly remodeled VH1 in ’95. Rising to the position of Senior VP of Music and Talent, he weighed in significantly on all music programming (“Behind the Music” and “Storytellers”) and began co-creating tent-pole events and series (“Hip Hop Honors” and “Supergroup”). Gillmer’s purview of collaborators included record label executives and marketers, artist managers, outside TV producers, music producers, artists themselves and of course, the MTV Networks’ staff at large.

Programming highlights included the ’99 “Concert of the Century” from the White House and the October ’01 “Concert for New York City.” Gillmer also worked extensively with VH1’s Save the Music initiative, as well as VH1.com, VH1 Radio and other MTV Network ancillary businesses.

As the MTV Networks’ business plans evolved, Bruce’s efforts were refocused to use his unique skills on a broader landscape. In ’06, he added Spike, Comedy Central, CMT and MTV International to his list of networks for which he helped book and produce various programs and specials.

He also began co-producing and booking a variety of outside specials, like “The ’06 Billboard Music Awards”and “The RockCorps Series.” Gillmer was instrumental in booking the historic twelve “Live Earth” concerts around the world on 7/7/07.

In the Summer of ’08, he was named the Senior VP of MTV International Talent and Music Programming.

Gillmer is an Indiana State University graduate and is based in New York City.
